Configure Risk Settings
Set up risk per trade, risk modes, and daily loss limits for your accounts
Risk management settings are the foundation of consistent trading. TradeLog lets you configure risk settings per account or through shared Risk Management Profiles. These settings power the R-multiple calculations, risk badges, and position sizing across the entire application.
Risk Per Trade
The most important setting is your risk per trade, expressed as a percentage of your balance. For example, setting risk to 1% on a $100,000 account means each trade risks $1,000. This value is used to calculate how many "R" (risk units) each trade represents.
Two Risk Modes
The risk settings offer a toggle with two risk calculation modes. Pick the one that matches your trading style:
- Fixed Risk -- Risk is always calculated from your starting balance. Example: 1% of $50,000 = $500 per trade, regardless of current PnL. Best for consistent sizing.
- Dynamic Risk -- Risk is calculated from your current balance (starting balance + realized PnL). Your position size grows as your account grows, and shrinks during drawdowns. This is the compounding mode.
Daily and Weekly Limits
You can set additional guardrails to protect your account:
- Max Daily Losses -- The maximum number of losing trades allowed per day (or maximum R-units lost per day).
- Max Weekly Losses -- The maximum number of losing trades allowed per week.
- Daily/Weekly Win Targets -- Optional targets that trigger a "goal reached" notification in the Mini Dashboard.
- Max Daily/Weekly Trades -- Hard limits on the number of trades you can take in a day or week.
Risk Management Profiles
If you trade multiple accounts with the same risk rules, you can create a shared Risk Management Profile on the Risk Management page. Then assign that profile to any account. Changes to the profile automatically apply to all linked accounts.
- 1Go to the Risk Management page in the sidebar.
- 2Click "Create Profile" and fill in your risk settings.
- 3Go to Accounts, edit any account, and select "Use Global Risk Profile."
- 4Choose the profile from the dropdown.
