Add a Trade

Complete guide to adding a trade with inline entry -- fill a draft row cell by cell

TradeLog records trades with inline entry. Instead of opening a modal form, you add an editable draft row at the top of the journal and fill it in cell by cell. The row promotes itself to a live trade as you go -- there is no separate Save step.

Open a Draft Row

Click the "Add Trade" button at the top of the Journal page (the + button; on mobile and tablet it is the "Add Trade" tab). A new draft row appears at the top of the table. No modal or pop-up window opens. Note: the button is hidden in demo mode, when you have no accounts, when the Manual Trading toggle in Settings > Journal is off, and by default on most broker-synced accounts (trades arrive via sync; each synced account has an Allow Manual Entry override in its settings).

Three things are filled in for you on every new draft: the account (taken from your account filter -- the selected account if you have one chosen, otherwise your first account; switch it with the account cell), the entry date and time (set to now, editable), and the trading session (auto-detected from the entry time).

The Four Fields That Create the Trade

A draft stays a draft until four fields are set. Click each cell to fill it (unfinished drafts show a reminder banner after 24 hours and are automatically deleted after 7 days):

  • Symbol -- the instrument traded (e.g., ES, EURUSD, BTCUSDT). Start typing to search.
  • Direction -- Long (buy) or Short (sell).
  • Entry Price -- the price you entered at.
  • Quantity -- your position size.

As soon as all four are filled, the row automatically becomes a live Running trade.

Order type: inside the Entry cell you can mark the entry as Market (the default) or Pending. If you choose Pending, the completed draft becomes a Pending order instead of a Running trade until it fills.

Close the Trade

To log a completed trade, click the Exit cell and add the Exit Price (and exit date). The row flips from Running to Closed, and TradeLog automatically computes:

  • Net PnL -- contract-aware profit or loss, after fees and swap.
  • Result -- Win, Loss, or Break Even, decided using your breakeven tolerance.
  • Auto-tags -- descriptive tags such as TP-Hit, SL-Hit, Cut-Loss, Set-and-Forget, Risk-Free, and Early-Exit, based on how the trade played out.

Add Risk, R, and Planned RR

Enter your Stop Loss in the SL/TP cell so the Risk column, the risk badges, and the R-multiple all populate. Add a Take Profit to set your planned reward-to-risk (RR). Risk is measured using your account's risk mode (Fixed or Compounding).

Add Optional Detail

Every other field is optional and edited in its own cell. The more you add, the richer your analytics:

  • Strategy -- link the trade to one of your saved strategies.
  • Timeframe -- the chart timeframe used (e.g., 5m, 15m, 1H).
  • Setup Grade -- if you have setup grading configured for the strategy, grade the setup (A+, A, B+, B, C by default).
  • Tags -- your own labels for filtering and analysis.
  • Images -- chart screenshots of the setup, entry, and exit.
  • Notes -- free-text rationale, emotions, and lessons learned.
  • Fees and Swap -- trading costs, subtracted from gross PnL to give Net PnL.

Partial Closes, Scaling, and Pyramiding

If you close a trade in pieces or add to a position, it appears as a parent row that expands into child legs. Use the "Group partial closes" toggle in Quick Settings to control how those legs are shown.

You never have to fill in everything at once. Capture the four key fields to create the trade, then add stops, tags, and screenshots whenever you have time. All edits are inline -- just click the cell.
