Partial Closes & Scaling

How TradeLog combines partial closes and scale-ins into one trade, and the labels you'll see

When you close a position in pieces, or add to it while it's open, your broker records several separate deals. TradeLog groups them into ONE trade in your journal — one position, one row — so your stats stay clean and your win rate isn't distorted by counting each piece as its own trade.

Scale-In vs Scale-Out

  • Scale-in — you add to an open position (increase its size). Each addition belongs to the same trade.
  • Scale-out (partial close) — you close part of the position and let the rest run. Each partial belongs to the same trade.
  • The trade stays open until the last unit is closed; only then does it get a final result.

Labels You'll See

  • Initial — the first entry of a position that was later scaled.
  • Scaled-in — a later addition to the position.
  • Scaled-out — a partial close taken before the position was fully closed.

How P/L and R Are Combined

Your trade's P/L is the sum of all its parts, net of fees and swap. R is measured against a fixed denominator, never re-based as legs close: Financial R (F) divides by your planned 1R frozen at the moment you entered, and Technical R (T) divides by the position's own entry-to-stop risk — so scaling out to lock in profit shows the true result of the whole trade, not of each piece on its own.

Seeing Every Fill

On a synced trade, open the Action Timeline to see each individual fill — every scale-in and partial close, with its time and size — while the journal keeps showing the single combined trade.
