Balance Reconciliation
How TradeLog checks that your journal fully explains your broker's balance
On auto-synced accounts, TradeLog treats your broker's reported balance as the source of truth — the balance you see always follows the broker. Balance reconciliation is the health check behind it: it verifies that your journal (starting balance + trade results + deposits and withdrawals) fully explains that broker balance, and tells you when something is missing.
Where You See It
When there is an unexplained difference, the account's card on the Accounts page shows a 'Partial history' badge. Click it to open the Balance reconciliation panel: a plain-language explanation, a three-line ledger (Broker balance / Journal explains / Difference), and the actions that apply.
What the Difference Means
- Healthy — your journal fully explains the broker balance. Nothing to do.
- Starting balance not confirmed — confirm your account's starting balance first; the check waits until then.
- Small drift — a cent-level rounding difference. Tracked silently, never flagged.
- Historical gap — part of your trading history was never imported (usually trades from before you connected). Importing the full history closes it.
- Capital event — the broker balance moved without any trades: most likely a deposit, withdrawal, or payout made at the broker. Record it on the Transactions page and the difference resolves.
- Possible duplicate — a trade may have been counted twice.
- Unexplained — a difference that keeps changing as trades import. Worth a closer look; if it persists, contact support.
The Actions
- Import full history — jumps to the Import page for this account (offered for gaps).
- Mark as expected — acknowledges a difference you already understand, for example history you know you will never import. The badge stays hidden unless the difference later changes again.
- Undo — removes the acknowledgement.
- Re-check now — recomputes the check on demand.
Reconciliation never changes your money. It only detects, explains, and lets you acknowledge — your displayed balance keeps following the broker either way.
The two most common causes are partial history (you connected after your first trades) and a deposit or withdrawal that was never recorded. Importing the older history, or adding the missing transaction, resolves the badge at its root.
